Η επιστολή αυτή στάλθηκε από εμένα σήμερα στο Channel 4:Dear sirs,
Today when i got back from work i opened my TV set to be informed what its like to be greek for a week . Before i continue this letter i would like to apologise for my english. I stydied many years ago when i was younger and my parents instead for buying thigs for themselves and having " the time of their lives beeing greek:" decided its important to learn your language , to understand your beautiful country and learn from you.
So now that i know your language and since you dont know my beautiful language i can help you realize what its like to be greek for a week .
For the majority of greeks who always paid their taxes and tried their best at work everyday a week now is :
1) a constant regret for their political choices
2) a constant fear for the future and mostly for their childrens
3) a constant strugle to get by on little money
4) a constant try to organize what to buy and what to eat everyday
5) a constant fear to loosing their jobs. their homes their dignity.
And during all these" fabulus" weeks that they have to face all these problems and are strugling to do their best for the country they love and cherish so much they have to be humiliated by people who dont know the first thing about them. and believe they are in a position to insult those whose ancient treasures still keep in their museums although they have no right to do so,whp are supposed to know the importance of tradition, honour , history,but are unable to respect other peoples ones.
i am deeply sorry to hear you are trying to be greek for a week . you wouldnt last a day being all the things we are which you will never comrehend.
i wouldnt like to be English not ever .
I am greek for all my life and the mistakes for which we fight are ours to fight .
Thank you for not helping or understanding what we face daily many months now.
Thank you for making me realize that this beautiful language i learned thanks to the sucrifices my parents made does not treat me with the respect i treated this language.
we continue to sruggle against all odds.
we are used to it and we will win .
